- Watch the Scorsese short The Big Shave (1967) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83i8G6o0quc
- In what ways might this be seen to be 'shocking' in terms of both content and style?
- Try to analyse the way the film has been put together in terms of its use of mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound, genre (not forgetting the genre of TV advertisements) and narrative structure, in order to shock.
- Do you think there is any way in which the 'shock' in this film short may be said to be used to any social or political purpose? Consider what was happening during the period in both American foreign policy and home affairs.
- Choose an additional 3rd case study film, watch and take note of key scenes that bring about an emotional response in the same way that we did in class
- Write down the key scenes from American History X that could potentially be seen as shocking

Small Scale Research Presentations
There will be the final deadline for all research to be completed, AND presentations will be delivered.
You are required to hand in:
- 1 1500 presentation script (see example, link in a previous posting)
- 1 organised folder with research
- 1 annotated catalogue (preferable at the front of the folder acting as a contents page, Jake Saunders has a good example of this)
Please make sure that, you are 100% organised, your small scale research title is finalised, that you actually address the title, that you check the assessment criteria, that you have practiced the presentation, and that you see me about equipment needs. A running order will be provided closer to the time.
Dept Teachers will be present.
PRESENTATIONS ARE NOT OPTIONAL AND SERVE TO PROVIDE A CHANCE TO SUPPLEMENT YOUR GRADE.
